Peacefully, after the blessing of more than ninety-seven years of health, happiness and humour, our Mother, Mary Isobel Fecteau (nee Boles), passed away peacefully at the Georgian Bay General Hospital, Midland ON on Wednesday, April 24, 2019. Mom was the beloved wife of the late George Fecteau, and cherished mother of Paula Fecteau (Wayne Bradley), Christena Reed (Bernie), Patty Donaldson (Keith), Shelly Gianetto (John) and Teresa Brown (Anthony). A devoted grandmother of Ryan, Andrew, Greg, Julie, Mary-Jordan, Alison, Patrick, Andrea, Sarah and Emma, and a loving “G-G” to her fourteen great-grandchildren. Mom was predeceased by her only sister, Margaret Mechan (the late Edward). She is lovingly remembered by her nieces, nephews and extended family.
Born in Toronto and raised in Sutton, Mom was a proud graduate of St. Michael’s Hospital School of Nursing, Toronto, class of 1943. After arriving in Midland with a young family in 1955, Mom joined the nursing staff at St. Andrew’s Hospital. During her career as an RN at St. Andrew’s and later at Huronia District Hospital, Mom looked after a great many of our area’s newborn citizens, until her retirement in 1986.
Before and during her retirement, Mom was an active volunteer in the community. She gave her time and efforts as a member of the Catholic Women’s League, and a volunteer with Meals on Wheels, Hillcrest Village, Askennonia, Silver Thread and Telecare. Her spare time was spent travelling far and wide, but she always loved her home in Midland best.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Margaret’s Church, 589 Hugel Avenue, Midland on Saturday, April 27th at 1:00 p.m. Cremation to follow. Memorial donations to the St. Vincent de Paul Society Midland would be appreciated. Messages of condolence will be received by leclaircremationcentre.ca
