Cheri Jaye (Bailey) McPherson

March 3, 1959 ~ April 7, 2021 (age 62)

Death notice

Whether you knew her as Cheri, Cher, Mom, Auntie Cher, or Grandma Cheri, you know that she was a vibrant and bright light; loving, forgiving to a fault and always welcoming. We have lost our Cher in a startling and heartbreaking manner. She is at peace now and we are grateful for that. Rest assured she will be our guiding light and guardian angel, much as she was in life. To know her was to love her; immediately. Her accepting and sincerely kind nature was immeasurable. She was a devoted daughter, mother, aunt and grandma. Cheri loved unconditionally. We know she was a great source of pride for her parents, Joan and Gord. Cheri was a devoted and loving daughter.  Reid and Cheri were typical sibling rivals and shared a bond that was atypically indestructible, even though challenging at times. He will greatly miss her sense of humour and remember fondly her pranks; one of the most memorable was the time she sent their mother's coveted tuna casserole to him. Believe us there were more!  Her children Baillie and Brodie were her pride and joy. We know she is grateful that they have both found their loving life partners, Robert and Beverly.  Cheri's grandson Logan and granddaughter Audrey lit up her life and filled her heart. So often she said, "My heart is so full" and reading it you could feel her joy.  Spencer, her much loved nephew will tell you that Autie Cher was fun loving, creative and always there for him. She taught him to ride a bike on the "dirt road" at the cottage when no one else could.  I considered my sister-in-law a sister,  I could not have loved her more. I loved her the day I met her and I do believe she felt the same about me. Distance never minimized our connection. She was the person I could laugh until I cried with, the friend I knew would always love me, and the person I could confide in.

Cheri was a devoted step mother to Jamie Moore, (Shawn) and grandmother to their daughter Audrey as well as,  Brent and Dylan McPherson. She so enjoyed the days she and Dave had the opportunity to pick Audrey up from school and then take her pick out a toy, or watch with pride as she performed from a very young age in dance recitals. Cheri and Dave shared exciting trips and travels with their combined families. White water rafting, tree trekking, dune buggy races, a trip to Ireland, hosting golf tournaments to raise funds for Diabetes research.  Family holiday get togethers with the Frews and the Chivers were boisterous, fun-loving and always full of good food. Cheri was a treasure to us all.

Cheri was integral to growing McPherson Designer Landscaping. She and Dave worked side by side. More often than not their crew considered her their second mom and their "boss." She treated them as if they were family. We know they will keep her in their hearts and will always be grateful for having known and loved her.  Their clients often became friends and Cheri and Dave made a point to get to know each and every one of them. We know they will be saddened to hear of her passing.

The love for the game of golf was something Dave and Cheri cherished. Friendly, yet real competition was a "driving" force on each course they played; and there were many. Trips down south, and one trip in particular where they got married on the course was so treasured. When they shared the news with family and friends, we were overjoyed for them. We all knew they were in Dave's words; "Connected at the hip."

Traveling to Mexico brought very special friends into Cheri and Dave's lives. They so valued these friends who they considered family. She will be missed by special friends; Deb Recker and family as well as Leslie McElmurry and family. We know their hearts share the void we all have. Cheri never forgot to bring gifts for the staff and the children at the resort. We know these special friends have a permanent place in their hearts for her.

Please keep Cheri alive in your hearts and minds by doing random acts of kindness, finding a reason to laugh every day, reaching out to those who could use a hand and reflecting on your memories of her. Thank you for your loving thoughts, prayers and condolences.

In loving memory,

Dave, Baillie, Brodie, Reid, Nancy, Spencer, Jamie, Brent and Dylan.
