Welcome to the memorial page for

Hugh Niblock

March 27, 1931 ~ April 17, 2015 (age 84) 84 Years Old

Hugh will never be forgotten  by his family and friends as the personal cartoons he made for us will remind us forever. He won many art awards, but was most flattered when someone chose a painting, drawing or some sculpture for their home.

While a philosophy undergraduate at the U of T,  he was the cartoonist for "The Varsity", the daily university newspaper. Upon graduation, he was commissioned to paint an extensive mural of university life for Hart House. This led to a scholarship to study in England. He then taught art for a year in England, where he fell in love with the profession. Back to Canada and after trying careers as a graphic artist for TV, newspapers and curating in Toronto art galleries, he went back to what  he loved, teaching and coaching kids. He taught art for 10 years in Fort Frances and then PSS in Penetang until retirement. He devoted his spare time to helping run  Galerie Gale's Art Gallery in Midland, opened to promote art and artists in the area. He also helped with B&B at Galerie
Gale with his love of gourmet cooking and quiet charm.

Hugh is survived by his wife Gale (Fournier), formerly of Clearwater Lake, Ontario, his daughters, Sandra Henrysson (Claes) and Holly Pilon (Jamie) and grandchildren Chloe, Tristan, Christer and Ella. Hugh joins our six year old daughter Nancy Junette who died in 1971. Hugh is also survived by his siblings, Rev. Peter Niblock (Pam) of Vancouver, Peggy Hunter of Calgary and Rev. Brian Niblock (Lorraine) of Australia. He is predeceased by his parents, John and Dorothy (Brown) Niblock.

Friends will be received at the Midland Cultural Centre, 333 King Street, Midland, on Saturday, May 16th from 1-5 p.m. Eulogies and remembrances of Hugh will be shared at 2:30 p.m. If desired, donations to the Georgian Bay Cancer Support Centre would be appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to LeClair Cremation Centre.
