Joyce Gertrude Lees

April 18, 1933 ~ October 22, 2019 (age 86)

Death notice

Joyce had three passions.  The first was photography.  Her first real job was processing pictures for the Timmins Daily Press.  On her train tour through northern Ontario, Queen Elizabeth Ⅱ, was photographed for the press.  She requested one copy of the photography that was taken.  Joyce felt that a black and white photo was not good enough for the Queen so she hand-tinted the picture.  This was Joyce’s small gift to her Royal Highness.

Her second passion was cooking, so she took many courses at George Brown College.  She amassed a huge collection of cookbooks.  Living alone did not satisfy her craving for cooking, so she began to cater special events for friends and colleagues.  Since this was sporadic, she then started trying new recipes and feeding her co-workers.  Much to her pleasure, this became a weekly event.

Genealogy was her third passion.  She wanted to find out all the details of her family.  Again, she immersed herself in courses, to learn how to research.  She was always ready to teach people how to begin their own family research.  If they hit a snag, she would often help by doing the research for them.

The attached picture was taken at Tiffin Retirement House, when she gave a talk on genealogy.

Her family was her love.  She kept in touch for special events and spent hours on the phone with both old and young members.

She was a warm, friendly, caring person, that we all have special memories, of how she touched our lives.

Rest in peace.

Joyce is predeceased by her sister Elva.  Survived by her brother Stan Hayes (Deanna), cousins Marlyn LeBlanc (Eugene), and Rob Kelley, nephew; Blake, Hugh, and Kevin (Laureen), nieces; Kathy, Marie (Bill), Christine and Sylvia (Brian), grandnieces and grandnephews; Keri (Casey), Josh, Anna (Doug) and Becki.
