It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ken Garvey
in his 82nd year - a great husband, father and grandfather and friend to many.
He was formerly from Antigonish, Nova Scotia, and settled in New Toronto with his wife, Mary, to raise a family for close to 40 years. Ken selflessly played an active role in the Society of St. Vincent de Paul for many years at St. Teresa’s Catholic Church in New Toronto. He and his wife, Mary, retired and moved to Midland 13 years ago. Ken was employed with Anaconda/Arrowhead Metals as a Production Supervisor and later with Gabriel/Arvin Ride Control as an MRO Buyer for 25 years. Ken was an avid sports fan of Toronto sports teams, win or lose. Ken’s cheer for the Toronto Maple Leafs and Blue Jays will surely continue in heaven.
Ken jumped out of a perfectly good airplane, breathed under water scuba diving, climbed the highest hills on dirt bikes and skied the Matterhorn and the Alps and all over North America as he belonged to several ski clubs. He took pleasure later in life knowing his family also enjoyed skiing. He also enjoyed 13 winters in Florida as a snowbird.
Ken is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mary (nee Works) of Midland, son, Mark Garvey (daughter-in-law, Julie, and granddaughters Samantha and Jelena) of Unionville, son, Jamie Garvey, of Mississauga, and brother, R. J. Garvey (Peggy) of Alliston. He was predeceased by his mother, Rose Garvey, his father, Raphael Garvey, and three sisters, Rosalie Vincent, Sandra Garvey and Elaine Clarke.
At Ken’s request cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation.
There will be a memorial mass in Ken’s memory on Tuesday, October 5th, at 2:30 p.m. at St. Margaret’s Church in Midland.
Any donations may be made in Ken’s memory to Georgian Bay General Hospital, the Salvation Army or St. Margaret’s Church in Midland.
